The German Pavilion, Barcelona

On a student led trip we visited the German Pavilion in Barcelona. A 1920's building, built for the Barcelona International Exposition in 1929. The building was designed by the well known architect Mies van der Rohe, his intentions were for the building to look as though it is floating. This is perceived by the glass used from floor to ceiling.

The material here is marble onyx, an expensive material, which he used a large some of his budget on purchasing for the building. The building has a total of 3 types of marble used, and travertine, a type of limestone.
